Awards totaling $15,000,000 to $24,000,000 over a six-year period are anticipated. The proposed budget must be commensurate with the scope of the project and thoroughly justified in the proposal. BioFoundries funding will be provided yearly. Pending availability of funds, it is anticipated that $37,000,000 will be available in Fiscal Year 2024.

NSF envisions its BioFoundries serving both as user facilities and as innovation hubs for cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research with the important role of democratizing access to the tools of modern biology and biotechnology for the purposes of advancing scientific discoveries and translating those discoveries to address pressing societal challenges.
